My Review:

I started reading this on a whim. I was browsing my local bookseller and came across issues 1 and 2 and decided to give them a try. I have to be honest, it was mostly because Fiona Staples was written in huge letters on the front and if you don't know who that is or haven't read SAGA then I don't know what you are doing with your life. She is an amazing illustrator.

With that in mind I knew of Archie. I knew it was a popular comic series that ran for years and years but honestly didn't know much about the plot line except that there is a brunette and a blonde and he is constantly making up his mind between these two opposite girls. I know that sounds like I know a lot about it but really it is the absolute basic premise of the story.

I will tell you though. I loved this. I really did. It feels really great and I know this sounds weird but it feels really "American." I feel like this is a classic boy next door, girl next door, and sexy new girl in town story and I thought that dynamic was so classic and so fun. We have a quirky best friend and all the stereotypical high school drama and I just found it so fun.

The art style is a perfect reflection of the story and I will definitely be continuing on. I also love that Jughead, the quirky best friend, is getting his own revamped story written by one of the brilliant minds behind "Sex Criminals," not unlike SAGA you should pick up his work. It is amazing and so witty that I can't wait to see how his humor applies to Jughead.

My Star Rating:

4.5 out of 5
