I am having a phenomenal reading week.

Seriously...it has been great. I am crushing it.

Not to be a brag since basically zero people come across this blog but it makes me feel better to say it.

I am catching up on a review book that I have just a few days to read before release and it is crazy food and I can see why it is already up for several YA prizes.

I have also finished two audio books and made significant progress in completing an ebook and another book I have been reading. Seriously. CRUSHING. IT.

Not a lot to update except for the listened to the audio book for Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's and it just cemented my love of Capote and of the film version. Not that I know the story almost mirrors the film I see how beautifully done it really was. Plus Audrey, DUH.

Other than that no important reading or life updates. Brent is out of town all week for work so I have just been loving and cuddling the pets and watching a ridiculous amount of Heroes on Netflix. I know most people say that show jumped the shark at season 2 but I am still really loving it.

24298402

I received an ebook version of this soon to be released book in exchange for an honest review.

After starting this book by Holly Bodger I couldn't put it down.

This was something that I wasn't expecting and am so glad that I requested this copy.

The story is told in dual perspective in a near future India in which the males outnumber the females 5 to 1.

This near future supposes that the city in which the book takes place has built up it's walls and changed it's government in a way that views women of marrying age as the most precious commodity because in the past a law was enacted that allowed each family only have one child and most parents choose to have a boy that could carry on the name and bloodlines.

Now because girls are so rare each boy of marrying age must compete in a series of tests to win the hand of an available girl.

The first perspective is Sudasa, the girl waiting to choose a husband from a set of 8 suitors one of which has been hand selected despite the tests supposedly being "fair."

The second perspective is one of the boys competing and he doesn't want to be there, he wants to escape the competition and the city.

The female perspective is told in a type of verse that also has broken words, symbols, and poetic phrases. It was mesmerizing to read. So unique, complex, and emotional in a new way.

The male POV, although written in a standard writing style is still beautifully written.

This story is dynamic, entertaining, fast paced and the characters are very well developed.

I can't imagine that this is a stand alone and I really hope that it is not because I can NOT wait to continue with these characters on their journey.

Dream a Little Dream (The Silver Trilogy, #1)

I received an ARC copy of this through a www.goodreads.com giveaway.

I was excited when I received but and that only grew as I read through this fun and inventive story.

Seriously, if you enjoyed her previous series this book is for you. If you only though the previous Precious Gems Trilogy was okay, than this is also for you and maybe even more so because it will make you fall in love with the author.

There is a dynamic family relationship, an inventive villain, and a story set in a world of dreams in something unlike anything I had ever read.

If you are looking for something fun, fast paced, and in a highschool setting where kids believe they can summon demons than check this book out.

5 out of 5

Currently reading quite a few things but truly enjoying...most of them.

Locked In by John Scalzi on audiobook. Just okay.

Dream a Little Dream: Kerstin Gier, very cute and funny just like the Precious Gems trilogy.

Poisonwood Bible: a reread on audiobook when in the car with my husband so not in a rush to know what happens.

Bee and Puppycat: Cutest little comic/cartoon ever.

The Wicked Will Rise: Book two of the Dorthy Must Die trilogy by Danielle Paige and I am finding this book to have second book syndrome but am trying my best to power through it. I loved the first and the prequel and additional novellas really add to the overall story.

5 to 1: Holly Bodger

I think I will have a lot to say about this once I am done with it. I received a copy yesterday via netgalley.com and have been reading away on my phone ever since. The writing style already is unlike anything I have ever read. As a dual perspective novel this is a very unique way to split the narrative.

I am about 20% done according to the EBook and I am excited to continue on and review this for the author/publisher.

I have a few other review books I plan to get to soon. My husband will be out of town for work ALL next week and I am planning to use that time to watch netflix and read since I don't want to watch any of the shows we watch together without him.

It seems like it has literally been forever since I have used this blog.

That definitely doesn't mean I have not been reading.

Everyday I come closer and closer to my Goodreads yearly reading goal on 125 books.

This is a huge jump from last year when my plan was to only read 50 books but I exceeded it by over 30 books so I decided to set my sights a little higher this year.

This has proved a little easier with my new found admiration for graphic novels.

Has anyone been keeping up with Marvel's new Ms. Marvel.

She is an amazingly witty woman of color and her sass just makes me happy.

Other than that I have been kind of living by the draw a title out of a hat to read mentality. Actually for me it is a fox shaped mug I got from one of my besties for my birthday but I would definitely say it has made for a diverse reading year so far and I am loving it.

I have also received a few ARC's from Netgalley (netgalley.com) lately and I am working my way through those hoping to get a review out for those well before the publishing date. (not that a single person reads my ramblings but it is nice to get my thoughts down about books I am genuinely excited about.

Other than that I am now, and have been for some time, a resident of the state of Louisiana where is rains all the time. I still have a wonderful husband, dog, and fat cat and have the addition of an adorable kitten we found this winter abandoned in the middle of an alley way who we affectionately refer to as the street rat of the group.

That't it for now I am looking forwarding to picking up where I left off and hopefully being more active in the future!
