Book Description:

THE MUST-READ THRILLER OF THE YEAR: Featuring the most exhilarating heroine in memory and a sophisticated, endlessly ingenious, brilliantly paced narrative through dark territory and deep mystery, this is a new milestone in literary suspense and a major new breakout book from the long acclaimed master.

At twenty-two, Bibi Blair’s doctors tell her that she’s dying. Two days later, she’s impossibly cured. Fierce, funny, dauntless, she becomes obsessed with the idea that she was spared because she is meant to save someone else. Someone named Ashley Bell. This proves to be a dangerous idea. Searching for Ashley Bell, ricocheting through a southern California landscape that proves strange and malevolent in the extreme, Bibi is plunged into a world of crime and conspiracy, following a trail of mysteries that become more sinister and tangled with every twisting turn.

Unprecedented in scope, infinite in heart, Ashley Bell is a magnificent achievement that will capture lovers of dark psychological suspense, literary thrillers, and modern classics of mystery and adventure. Beautifully written, at once lyrical and as fast as a bullet, here is the most irresistible novel of the decade.

I want to start by saying I have never in my entire life read a Dean Koontz book and had little interest until I read the description of this and saw it was on netgalley.com. An opportunity to give Koontz a try without spending my money on him in case he wasn't for me, which as previously mentioned I expected he wasn't, I couldn't really pass up the chance.

Am I happy I read the book? Yes. For many reasons; one being the simple fact that I can say I gave Koontz a try. There was a lot to enjoy while reading this book. Bibi for instance was such a fun character and I loved the idea that she survived a deadly illness in order to thrust herself into danger to save someone else. Another being the edge of your seat mystery/thriller aspect that Koontz seems to be known for. I could see why people become fans because I always get a bit of a rush reading thrillers/mysteries.

I will however say that I did find his writing a little repetitive, overly descriptive in parts, and sometimes he had some one liners that reminded me of David Caruso as his CSI character, which wasn't a great thing.

If you are looking for a fun, fast paced, mystery adventure than this will definitely fit what you need. Die hard Koontz fans I think will be satisfied with his book as it seems to me that it read exactly like I expected it to.

I thought the characters were well thought out and intriguing and I did genuinely care about their lives and what happened to them. He is a great writer and I think that people who enjoy this type of book will really like this. I also think it would appeal to a YA audience with ease.
