Title: Thicker Than Water
Author: Brigid Kemmerer
Publisher: Kensington Books
Publication Date: December 29, 2015

Goodreads.com Description:

On his own

Thomas Bellweather hasn’t been in town long. Just long enough for his newlywed mother to be murdered, and for his new stepdad’s cop colleagues to decide Thomas is the primary suspect.

Not that there’s any evidence. But before Thomas got to Garretts Mill there had just been one other murder in twenty years.

The only person who believes him is Charlotte Rooker, little sister to three cops and, with her soft hands and sweet curves, straight-up dangerous to Thomas. Her best friend was the other murder vic. And she’d like a couple answers.

Answers that could get them both killed, and reveal a truth Thomas would die to keep hidden…

Review:

This book was such a pleasant surprise. I read the description on netgalley.com and saw that Jennifer L. Armentrout blurbed it and I was immediately drawn to it. I figure if it was anything like J.L.'s books, which are fun campy sci-fi/paranormal/new adult romances then I would be entertained throughout.

That is exactly what happened. This is part romance, part murder mystery, and has a bit of a paranormal twist. I loved every over the top minute of this.

I actually "started" this back at the beginning of December and got maybe 10% into it and set it down for about 20 days. Picked it up yesterday and read the entire thing from start to finish.

Our main character, Tom, is so swoon-worthy that girls still find him attractive even after he is accused of murdering his own mother.

Only two people believe he is innocent, the cute small town girl, and his new step-dad. Around every turn he is faced with cops, rumors, mistrust, and is trying to figure out his past which includes an absent father and a mystery family member which I won't say to much about because it will give away some key plot elements.

I really did enjoy the romance and the interactions, and Charlotte, the love interest and quintessential girl next door, has a snarky best friend who had some great one liners and made scenes light and fun.

Overall, I had a little problem with the pacing as I felt like the ending was a little rushed. For the most part everything was resolved in the last 10% of the book and I felt like that could have been handled a little better but other than that this was addicting and fun.

If you want something light and fun and a book that in my opinion NEEDS a sequel then consider picking this up. It comes out today and it has some pretty good reviews on goodreads.com so I know lots of people agree that the entertainment factor is definitely there!

 My Star Rating:

4 out of 5
